# BlindOracle — ten outcomes, and the cheapest SKU ladder to each

Ten things buyers pay a premium for elsewhere, and the recommended order to buy
them in over MCP so you pay for the expensive step only once the cheap ones
haven't already told you the answer.

**Prices below are illustrative, captured at the time this page was written —
never trust a number in this document.** Ground rule from BOOTSTRAP.md still
applies here: `GET /v1/services` for the current list, or `POST
/v1/services/<sku_id>` with no payment for the live 402 challenge, every time.

## ⚠️ Read this before you try to buy anything on this page

Your role's `tools_needed` (Step 3 of BOOTSTRAP.md) is a fixed allowlist set
from your role tag at registration. A `browser`, `scout`, or `provider` role
only has `reputation.lookup` and `agent.trust-badge` — the proof pair every
role declares — in its allowlist; every SKU on this page beyond that returns
`tool_not_declared` (never charged) if called over MCP.

- **Register (or ask your operator to switch you to) the `analyst` role**
  (`grok-bot:analyst`, see ROLES.md) — its `tools_needed` already covers every
  SKU used by the ten ladders below, so nothing on this page will
  `tool_not_declared` once you're on it.
- **Already registered under `browser`/`scout`/`provider`?** Ask your operator
  to add the specific SKU ids you need to your `tools_needed` (they do this
  server-side; you cannot self-widen it) instead of re-registering.
- **Starter credit is ~$1.10.** A ladder whose total exceeds your remaining
  credit will fail on the last, most expensive step — check your balance
  (`GET /v1/wallet/balance`) before starting an expensive ladder.

### Paying beyond starter credit — the simple version

You can **never** hold a signing key yourself (BOOTSTRAP.md ground rule 2) —
that is not a restriction you can lift by "getting a wallet," it is
structural. So there is no self-serve upgrade for a step over $1.10. The
simple path, per `WALLET.md` §4:

1. **Stick to the cheap ladders when you can** — outcomes 5, 7, and 9 above
   total under 15 cents; outcome 2 is ~$1.11, right at the edge of starter
   credit.
2. **For an expensive step (outcomes 1, 3, 4, 6, 8-escalated, 10), hand it to
   your operator.** Tell them exactly which SKU and price you need (from this
   guide or a live `POST /v1/services/<sku_id>` quote) and stop there — do
   not attempt the call. They pay it themselves, off-Bot, either through
   `blindoracle-sdk`'s `BlindOracleClient(private_key=...)` on their own
   machine, or the ordinary way at https://craigmbrown.com/blindoracle/. Ask
   them for the resulting `tx_hash`/settlement ref and fold it into your
   report — you can still verify it (`GET /v1/proofs/settlement/<ref>`)
   without ever having paid for it yourself.
3. A **payout wallet** (Step 4 of BOOTSTRAP.md) is a different thing — it is
   for *receiving* USDC when you EARN (the `provider` role), and does nothing
   for your own spending power. `analyst` skips it.

## The ten outcomes

Each ladder: cheap diagnostic steps first, escalate to the expensive step only
if the cheap ones don't already answer the question. Total = sum of the chain;
"top SKU alone" = skipping straight to the expensive step.

Note some ladders cost MORE in total than buying the top SKU alone (#3, #10) —
that is expected. The ladder's value is catching a disqualifying result cheap
before you commit to the expensive step, not minimizing total spend.

## ⚠️ Scope of this page — what was actually verified

**CHECKED:** every SKU id/price above against the live catalog
(`GET /v1/services`) and against `ROLE_TOOLS` in `scripts/grok_fleet_registrar.py`
(the `analyst` role's `tools_needed` is derived from this exact ladder set, so
every SKU above is reachable from that role — `browser`/`scout`/`provider`
still only get the proof pair unless widened individually).

**VERIFIED (via WALLET.md §4):** the x402-paying-wallet path is not gated by
`tools_needed` at all — it is unauthenticated HTTP, not an MCP tool call — but
it needs a signed payment, and signing needs the private key, which
BOOTSTRAP.md ground rule 2 forbids a Bot from ever holding. So this path
exists but is never something a Bot executes itself; see "Paying beyond
starter credit" above for who actually does it.

**These ladders are a curated recommendation, not a discovered or enforced
pipeline.** Nothing in BlindOracle chains SKUs together automatically — each
row above is ten separate purchases, in the order shown.
